Creating a Welcome Bag for your Destination Wedding Guests
When planning a destination wedding, it’s important for brides & grooms to keep their guests in mind. Chances are, the guests have travelled thousands of miles to celebrate your special day in that sunny destination, and making guests feel comfortable and at home will make the experience that much more memorable for everyone attending your wedding celebration abroad.
A welcome bag is a fantastic way to greet your guests, let them know how special they are, give them all of the details on plans and events for their time away… and kick off the festivities with some fun! Having a welcome get together upon arrival to the resort is a great opportunity to introduce the wedding party d family / friends to one another…. While also giving out the welcome bags to guests.
Providing your guests with a welcome bag filled with unique items truly puts a stamp on your wedding day and a great way to thank the guests for attending the destination wedding.
Welcome bags don’t have to cost a fortune, with a little bit of thought and creativity; you can create a personal welcome for your guests.
Here are some tips:
1] Choose the Bag: The welcome bag can be anything from a tote style bag to a sand pail. You can personalize these objects with monograms or a specific theme chosen for the wedding.
2] Add a personal touch: Let your family & friends know how happy you are they’ve made the trip by preparing a sweet welcome note. For the sake of simplicity, you can use your computer to type & print the letters; but to add that personal touch; be sure to sign each one in ink.
3] Provide a formal schedule of events. This is important to provide your guests with information on wedding day details, any booked group excursions, shuttle pick-ups, etc.
4] Provide a master guest list. Since some of the wedding guests may be arriving at different times of the day depending on where they are flying from; having a master rooming list so that guests can contact one another is very helpful. This is extremely beneficial in a larger resort when it makes it more difficult to track down family & friends.
5] Include a map of the resort & local brochures with information & pricing on tours & excursions available.
6] Include local items from the destination that you are visiting to showcase the local culture and support the local economy. For example, keychains, cd’s, candy, local rum…etc
5] Remember the kids: If children are attending the wedding, please keep them in mind when preparing the welcome bags. Perhaps you will want to create a child-specific welcome bag with items they will enjoy while on vacation. Include age appropriate items and have fun!
